292 Judo Athletes Compete for Governor TrophyBERITAJAKARTA.COM — 10/30/2010 6:53:26 PM.
Some 292 judo athletes consisting of 187 male and 105 female athletes coming from 58 judo clubs in Jakarta and several other regions will contest the trophy of Jakarta Governor in a judo competition starting Saturday (10/30).
"I expect Judo athletes to become tough and superior athletes who can represent Indonesia in international events of both Asian and the world levels," said Jakarta Capital City Governor Fauzi Bowo while opening the Governor-Cup Judo Championship in North Jakarta, Saturday (10/30).
Governor asserted, the main purpose of the competition was to select the best athletes who will become the city`s delegates at the National Sports Week (PON) XVIII in 2012, and the country`s representatives at international tournaments including the Asian Games XVI in Guangzhou.
"This tournament can be used as preparation to measure the capability of athletes in training," he added.
This competition, which is also attended by athletes from South Korean, is also part of the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day which falls on October 28. "This tournament will select the best of the best athletes," the governor stated.
